Winter is the time for comfort,
for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand
and for a talk beside the fire:
it is the time for home.

More is More

I ran into Terron Schaefer, the Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer for Saks Fifth Avenue, at the Five Year Anniversary party for the WSJ.Magazine during fashion week.  He said he was thinking of me because he need inspiration for his new apartment.  As you might have seen from my book where his office was featured, he has a large collection of photography and art that he wants to display it gallery style on two walls.  Instead of sending him photos or directing him to my Pinterest page, I figured why not share my suggestions with you all.  While I've posted gallery walls here and there, I haven't devoted an entire post to them since 2011. You can see it here. It also gives me an excuse to post a photo of the new Edition Hotel by Ian Schrager that just opened in London, above. They've got their own fabulous gallery wall of painting.

Bill's Food & Drink with interiors by Meg Sharpe is one of my favorite places in New York.

I found my own art wall online when looking for images!

Fabulous Forsythia

Flowering branches are the best mood lifter every spring.  I went out looking for Quince or Cherry Blossoms last week but could only find Forsythia in my neighborhood.  They turned out to be the perfect complement to my gallery wall and tablescape and were the best $18 I've ever spent.

Funny enough, the Off Duty section of the Wall Street Journal newspaper had a feature on hiding televisions in plain sight.  Mine blends in with the gallery wall of art as best a big black rectangle can but for more ideas, you can read the article here.

Happy Spring!

XOXO,

HC

Marvelous Malene

I know I just posted a lot of color but what's really been inspiring lately is black and white. It's the hot look for spring 2013 fashion and it's still a classic for the home.  You might remember that Danish fashion designer Malene Birger is also a fan from this post.   Well, she's been at it again at her new home in Palma, Mallorca. The article was in Dutch so I can't tell you any more but as we know, a picture is worth a thousand words. I really wish she's open a store in New York but until that happens, you can shop for By Malene online at Shopbop and Net-a-Porter

Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

It's grey and rainy in New York today.  What better time to post the beautiful sunroom from the Hamptons Designer Show House.  The room is a pass through between the great room and the kitchen but designer Kate Singer did a great job with the awkward space.  I especially love the gallery wall of art and mix of blues and neutrals. Definitely makes me wish I was at the beach.
