Christmas came early to Habitually Chic. Yesterday, I received a copy of the book Jacques Henri Lartigue: A Sporting Life
. In French, the title is Chic, le sport ! which obviously, I find amusing. I was first introduced to the book at a press preview at Hermès whose 2013 theme for the year was "a sporting life" which was inspired by the photos of Lartigue. The book was a collaboration with Actes Sud who produced a gorgeous volume with not only photos but of the drawings and journal pages of the peripatetic photographer. While I have seen many of Lartigue's beach photos of sun kissed skin on the Riviera which also populate the book, I hadn't seen his winter sports photos, some of which I've posted here. Many are from Megève and Chamonix where the skiers and skaters wore wool instead of moisture wicking techo fiber jackets or helmets for that matter. Their skies were probably wood too. No wonder Hermès was inspired.

Jungle Love
I included a look from the Spring/Summer 2014 Hermès show in my last post which reminded me that I should take a more in depth look at the collection. As you know, Hermès is best known for their leather accessories and bags but they also offer discreetly chic clothing to go along with said bags. The spring show was one of my favorites from Paris and had a jungle backdrop in the Orangerie et Jardin du Luxembourg. It featured a relaxed silhouette reminiscent of the 1980's and colors one wouldn't necessarily associate with spring and summer. This is probably why I liked them. In design and fashion, I prefer neutrals and dirty colors to bold brights. The yellow alligator skirt and teal green dresses look like pieces that would stay in your closet forever, just like the bags. Not sure if the prices are as steep as the bags so maybe I'll start saving up now.

Let's Lift It
I refer to Andrea Stanford as my Fairy Godmother in Los Angeles and the description is apt. We first met online years ago when I posted pics from C magazine where she was the Design + Style Editor. She still contributes to the magazine that is worth reading even if you don't visit California all that often. When I visited LA in 2010, she set up a whole day of meeting designers in their stores and offices. And when I was shooting my book, she made more introductions. For someone who is bff's with celebrities and could be a complete diva, Andrea is one of the most generous people I know. Her transition to One Kings Lane where she is Vice President of Merchandising, Designer, and Vintage Sales, has been a match made in heaven too. I'm surprised anything makes it to the online sales before she buys it for the Beverly Hills home she shares with her husband and three daughters.
When I was in LA this past January, I was able to see Andrea in the new much larger One Kings Lane offices that are going to be beyond chic when finished. It was there that she mentioned that The Coveteur was coming the next day to shoot her at home. I did what any self respecting fashionista would do, I begged to come over to watch. It was also a treat to meet founders Stephanie Mark and Jake Rosenberg in person. Sadly, Erin Kleinberg was not in town for this shoot. The shoot just went online today and it was so fun to see the end result. As you can see, Andrea has a pretty chic home and even chicer closet. And three very lucky daughters.
