Southern Charm

Sometimes I leaf through my new magazines and then throw them on the pile to be fully read later. Sometimes I like a particular interior but forget about it until it pops up later for further consideration. That was the case with this house in Georgia designed by Furlow Gatewood that was featured in Veranda two years ago. Maybe it resonates now that I own more antiques and art or maybe because I have blue and white on the brain.  It's worth taking a second look regardless. Mr. Gatewood definitely has a magic touch when it comes to design but then again, he's worked with the best, John Rosselli.  I hope someone is reshooting this amazing house so we see more. You know, as is the case with all antique dealers, it's probably undergone a complete transformation in the time since these photos were published.

"Antiquing is the best entertainment I have down here.  If you don't count decorating that is, and dogs, and peacocks." - Furlow Gatewood

Beautiful Blue & White

I'll never forget the story that antiques dealer John Rosselli told me about how Babe Paley once said to him, "you know John, you can never be too rich or too think or own too much blue and white porcelain." While blue and white Chinese porcelain looks great year round, it has always been associated with summer for me. It looks perfect paired with lighter shades and seagrass rugs, both indoors and out. I regret passing up some beautiful blue and white pieces recently at the flea market and may have to start collecting it again.  The first place I am headed tomorrow though is down to Pearl River Mart to look for a planter for a tall topiary like I saw in the new AERIN store.  You can also find great pieces at William Wayne if you are looking to add more blue and white into your life.

Chic Master Suite

I didn't realize until the end of my tour of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House that Kathryn Ireland designed the only bedroom in this year's townhouse. I'm glad it was a really chic one then.  Kathryn's style is usually very California Bohemian Chic but I thought she did a great job translating that to the East Coast with the use of all the antiques from John Rosselli and the Anglo-Indian Tester bed from Jonathan Burden.  It also doesn't hurt that all the fabrics and wallpaper are part of her collection for Scalamandré.

The Impressionist painting is from Rafael Gallery.

The bird painting is by Hunt Slonem.
