Mademoiselle C

Fall is chock full of fun premiers including the new Carine Roitfeld documentary Mademoiselle C. It follows the former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief as she prepares to launch her new magazine CR Fashion Book and become a grandmother.  It also gives a peek into her chic and minimal Paris apartment of which I've posted a few more pics here.  It's not what I would expect but I appreciate the lack of clutter.

In New York magazine she was quoted as saying, "If I had more time, [my apartment] would be cleaner, less books on the table. For me, it's a bit messy. People say, 'Are you just coming to this apartment?' No, I've been living here for fifteen years! One time, a burglar came to my apartment, so we called the police. My son was here, so I think they left before they tried to steal something. So the police come to the apartment and they say, 'Oh my god, did they steal everything?' I was like, 'No, it was like that!'"

Mademoiselle C debuts September 11, 2013 and you can check out the trailer below.

Salinger

The Catcher in the Rye is one of the most read books in the world which made the reclusive nature if its author J.D. Salinger (1919-2010) even more amazing.  The new documentary Salinger that will be released on September 6th looks into his life and what might have been behind his decision to shun public life.  It features over 150 interviews with his friends and those he inspired, some of which you can see in the trailer below. Definitely add it to your must see list for fall 2013. And maybe pull your copy of The Catcher in the Rye off the shelf for one more read.

“I like it when somebody gets excited about something. It's nice.”

The Eye Has to Travel: Part Deux

One New Yorker who many have admired over the years is Diana Vreeland.  You might remember my post on the book about her life and career, The Eye has to Travel.  It was written by Lisa Immordino Vreeland who is married to Diana's grandson, Alexander Vreeland.  Since she is part of the family, Lisa was able to comb through the family's vast archives and gain access to many who knew Mrs. Vreeland personally.  Out of the research came the idea for a documentary by the same name that will be released in New York and Los Angeles on September 21, 2012.  It will feature video interviews of Diana Vreeland that have rarely been seen.  What I loved most about Mrs. Vreeland is that she had to go to work to help support her family and did it with gusto.  She exemplifies the can-do attitude of New York and definitely motivates me to always keep moving.

“My feeling was that she has been misunderstood. Everybody knows this external side of Diana Vreeland,” explains Immordino Vreeland. “When people talk about her, they talk about her looks and her mannerisms. I wanted to show how serious she was, the texture of the woman.”
